Developing a Personal Brand in Martial Arts

Digital Branding in Martial Arts

“Social Media Influence and Your Startup Company” is an article that was written in 2017 by Ron Sela. In that article, he portrays the importance of social media influence and how it can benefit your brand and or business. Ron Sela identifies some very important points as to why you should consider social media and digital branding for your brand and or business. (i) influential people tend to understand the importance of social media (ii) influential senior managers provide additional encouragement to the digital marketing team (iii) messages directly from management are perceived as more credible. I have learned that the importance of digital branding improves recognition, creates trust, builds financial value, generates new customers, targets the specific consumers you’d like and you also get to build a loyal brand. Technology and social media are two of the go-to elements that I plan to use to facilitate a brand of expertise that I am knowledgeable and passionate about. That brand is martial arts.

Target Audience

When I started practicing Muay Thai three years ago I never thought it would lead me to where I am today. Muay Thai has connected me through blessings that I could have never imagined. I have met the best, strongest, kindest people through this wonderful martial arts. Martial arts have kept me disciplined, focused, and most importantly, mentally strong. Once you have created a target market and a brand image, it is important to create brand awareness. I am in the process of creating my brand in martial arts as I recently discovered my new love for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well. Discovering a new martial arts implements a lot more expertise and it is beneficial to know more than just one type of martial art. The beauty of martial arts is that the targeted audience depend on the type of people you would want to bring to your gym, attract into your circle.

Consistency is key

“There may be people that have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.” – Derek Jeter.  One of the most important contrivances that I have learned in martial arts is that you should always be one, if not the hardest working person in the room. Martial arts does not have room for lazy people. I have been working on brand awareness via social media. Educate your customers on what your services offer and how it can benefit them. I have provided content through digital marketing via photos of my training. Consistency is key, and the reason why is because you engage with your targeted audience and should be open to any questions and or concerns they may have in regards to martial arts. Be original with your posts, but stay consistent. It is very important to provide high-quality content, the pictures from a professional photographer, the videos for a professional videographer. There are a lot of great applications that you can use to edit your photos if you do not have the budget to post high-quality content.

Recommended Editing Applications

High-quality content is very important, you should always analyze the pictures and engage the audience with good quality photos. Wearing an outfit that matches the background of the photo is a good tip to use. Below you will find a list of editing applications to use for those that don’t have the budget to hire a professional photographer.

Instagram Promotions In today’s world is very important to keep up with social media. I have realized that if I want to brand myself in martial arts I need to invest money on social media. Instagram is the application I use to promote myself. Whether it’s a business, a blog, influencing, etc. branding yourself through Instagram brings a lot of audiences. It is one of the most effective ways to connect and keep them engaged. Instagram happens to be one of the best social media platforms to promote your brand. I have learned that more than 60% of the world’s top brands are using Instagram for their marketing. The aim to brand yourself through Instagram is more shareable posts, getting to know trends, build friendly relations in the martial arts world, attract all kinds of audience (including those that are not practicing martial arts), show your personality, change people’s perspectives about martial arts, success indicator, analytics insights, it also differentiates if your profile is business or personal.

Contact Information

It is very important to provide your contact information to your audiences. I want to teach people the beauty of martial arts and the benefits that it brings not only physically but mentally. I constantly receive messages from people asking me if it is safe to practice it, what are the benefits, or how I got started. I changed my profile on Instagram from a personal account to an “athlete” account that I am available to answer any questions. I provided my e-mail to be contacted via Instagram and my location in Miami, FL. I promote the gym I attend, it is Black House Miami Beach. Therefore, I make sure I have the link to their Instagram profile on my biography.

In Conclusion

I hope you have learned the benefit of keeping up with technology and enhancing your Instagram account to brand your personal brand and or business. In today’s world we need to be digital-savvy and ensure that our audience are able to find us through one click from our mobile devices and or tablets, iPad. You want to make sure your brand stands out and it is constantly driving new audience and consumers via your social media platforms, websites, surveys, reviews, yelp, it is all about technology.
